在六七十年代，“毛主席万万岁”的标语刷满了中国的大街小巷，可是当我在Google地图中看到这幅标语时，我还是被震撼了！因为它存在于新疆哈密以东的山峦之间。我把这幅地图嵌在下面。
我在Google Earth中也找了一下，先找到哈密，然后往东，有个地标叫“Hongxing Sichang” ，就在它的东北方。据说标语是为航校学员作为飞行训练的地标用的，这一地区的标语还不只这一个，更多请看这篇文章。下图是在Google Earth中看到的情景。

David Tryse制作了一张名为“世界上消失的森林（Disappearing Forests of the World）”的Google Earth图层，使我们可以直观的看到1990——2005年间，各个国家和地区的森林减少或者增加的状况。点击这里可以下载这个图层。下面是这个图层的一个截图。
绿色的区域表明森林面积在这15年当中增加了，它的高度对应于增加的面积。1垂直米（1 vertical meter）表示10公顷的面积。反之，红色和棕色则表示这一地区的森林减少了。地图上方有一个饼图，是该国/地区的国土覆盖示意图，点击进入详细资料。
数据来源于世界资源研究所（World Resources Institute）、绿色和平等组织。

这张图的左半部分是1978年6月12日的北京地区卫星图片，右半部分是2000年4月30日的卫星图片。我用两个讨厌的红圈把城区的大概位置标了一下，大家可以清楚的看到20年北京城市规模扩展的有多快。
这张图截自联合国环境署（UNEP）推出的“环境变化图集（Atlas of Our Changing Environment）” ，这个图集通过同一地区图片的对比来说明沧海桑田的变化，两张图片最长的时间差距是30年。
这个图集把照片放在了Google地图和Google地球上，看起来更方便，点击这里看地图。下面是这个地图的一张截图。
点击图片下面的“看详细信息（view detailed site information）” ，可以看到大图和介绍文字。在Google地球中观看的话，只要打开软件，在左侧栏找到“Global Awareness”，下面就有这个图集的英文名称，双击就可以看到了。这个图集对于研究人员会很有用。

没机会去迪斯尼乐园？或者准备去游览而想事先做个规划？那么在Google Earth上游历一番吧。这里所说的迪斯尼乐园是指位于美国佛罗里达州的那个。迪斯尼世界（Disney World）开发了一个3D图层，使我们可以在google earth上遍览迪斯尼的4大主题公园，以及周围的20多家度假酒店。
这个图层需要在最新版的google earth上观看。在搜索中键入“Disney World”，就会一下飞到那个梦想成真的地方了。找到米老鼠的小图标，点击，会看到“Show Disney World in 3D”的提示，再点击下面的主题乐园图标就可以进入游览了，效果相当不错。
在迪斯尼世界关于这个图层展示的主页上有一段视频，有关于怎样使用的介绍，大家可以看看。我又跑到香港的地界上去看了看，没有看到迪斯尼乐园。

在互联网领域，Google也不是每个产品都领先微软，比如3D地图。微软早在2006年就推出了3D地图视角，并且融入了它的地图服务。Google今天也终于推出了google earth的3D地图浏览器插件，大家可以在这里下载并体验。
但是它还不是一个面对用户的产品，也还没有融入google自己的地图服务。目前它更倾向于开发人员使用，比如你已经利用google地图数据，并把2D的地图放到了自己的网站上，那么只要增加一行代码，你的地图就会有3D视角了。基于google earth的图层文件（KML）也可以在浏览器当中实现。
Google Earth’s 3D Goodness Comes to the Browser
(via TechCrunch) …Website developers are now able to embed 3D maps, which can be modified using Google’s JavaScript API to add KML data, draw 3D buildings, attach callbacks, and more. The entire embed is powered by a special Google Earth Browser Plugin that end users must install. Unfortunately, it’s only available for Internet Explorer and Firefox users on Windows. Read more.
如果你是位Google Earth爱好者，当你手头的机器上没有google earth怎么办呢？可以试试FreeEarth，它是一个网络应用，不用下载任何软件，而且支持多种浏览器和操作系统。下图是它的一个截图，大家看看。
Poly9 puts the globe in your Web page
在左上角标注着视角的高度（Altitude），鼠标停留位置（Cursor）的经纬度，和Target（没有弄明白这个是什么）的经纬度。右上角的工具条是调整球体的上下位置，右边的工具条是缩放，也可以用鼠标滑轮。
请注意这张图显示的不是freeearth首页（本文第一段中的链接），而是Gallery页。在这个页面上还有很多采用freeearth的非常有意思的应用，比如地球上发现UFO的位置（不过图上只有美国有UFO），还有观看卫星在地球上空的位置，还记得我们介绍过如何在google earth上看卫星吗？这个比它要容易一些。下图显示的是哈勃太空望远镜某个瞬间的位置，太小了，画个难看的圈表示一下。
