图上有一个紫色的圈，那是1979——2000年北极冰面范围的平均线。我们可以看到，2007年夏天，北极的冰面融化的非常快。
除了这个南北极冰面变化图层外，美国国家冰雪资料中心还制作了很多的google图层，比如全球冻土带的变化、冰川的变化等等，非常适于研究人员、教师、环保人士使用。可以到这里下载这些图层。
传统的音乐电台榜单主要依据两个数据，一是专辑销量，二是歌曲在电台播放的次数。可是互联网已经改变了传统的音乐传播和购买方式，CD卖的越来越少，人们更多选择在网上直接购买下载歌曲；电台的听众也不再是固定时间的那些收音机旁的拥趸，而是网络电台。顺应这个趋势，BBC推出了Sound Index，它从Bebo、MySpace、Last.fm、iTunes、Amazon、Google和 YouTube上，获取歌曲的播放次数、购买数量以及人们的评价，推出了一个Top1000流行歌曲榜单。见下图。
这个榜单是一个动态的时间轴线，Sound Index会每6小时更新一次数据。目前的第一名是麦当娜大姐的“Hard Candy”。点击top1000这个标签会看到更详细的资料，点击图片会进入歌手和歌曲介绍。
这个榜单对乐评人可能会有些用处。对于普通歌迷来说，还好有搜索，我们可以看看自己喜欢的歌手排在什么位置。另外，在My Index这个标签里还可以对榜单进行过滤，比如只显示女歌手的榜单；在这里还可以自己对榜单进行排序。
BBC Launches Social Media Music Chart
(via readwriteweb) BBC Radio 1 announced a major update to their music charts about a week ago. Traditionally, mainstream music popularity has been measured by album sales or radio plays — or a combination of the two. But with albums selling fewer copies through traditional channels and radio losing ground to online music, the Beeb decided to take a look at the web to determine artist popularity. Their new Sound Index app, determines the top 1,000 artists based on buzz across some of the web’s largest music, video, and social networking sites. Read more.

上图是一个叫SoftMail的巴西网站所用的邮件订阅表格。文字看不懂，不管它。一个信封图标非常显眼，简单的三个小白框需要填写，最后一个锯齿形的确认图标很可爱。再看看下图这种便签纸的风格，来自一个叫pointofe的网站，是一个联系用的表格。

对于研究人员和新闻媒体来说，所引用资料的权威性直接关系到研究成果的可靠性和报道的真实性。联合国刚刚推出的UN Data就为需要权威、专业资料的人们提供了一个资料库，可以很方便的查找联合国的各项统计数据，包括国家情况、人口、环境、能源等各个领域。下图是它的首页，一个搜索框，非常简单。
比如要搜索二氧化碳排放（co2 emissions），会得到一系列搜索结果，其中就包括各个国家二氧化碳排放量的统计。UN data一个非常好用的地方在于，可以通过过滤（filters）来比较不同国家之间某一年度的情况，比如，可以比较中国、印度、英国、美国2004年二氧化碳的排放情况。见下图，点击看大图。
