今天早晨听到一个有点吃惊、但想想也正常的消息，Facebook拒绝Google Friend Connect访问其API，也就是说Google Friend Connect用户将无法和自己的Facebook资料建立关联，无法和自己facebook上的朋友在新站上交流。关于Google Friend Connect请看介绍文章和视频演示。

用户加入Google Friend Connect支持的网站，需要使用OpenID来验证。然后可以选择和Facebook（以前）、Orkut、Gtalk、Hi5（尚未推出）的资料建立联系。见下图，点击看大图。

这是那个示例站点IngridMichaelson登录后的样子。可以看到和facebook的关联已经断了，黄框所示。和其他帐户关联会有什么作用呢？在右下角的这个方块里写的很清楚：当你的朋友加入到新站点时，你们可以互相看到（不用到处去寻找了，多好）；方便邀请朋友加入新站；把你在新站的活动发布到原来的网站的活动板feed当中（facebook最典型）。

这些好处无疑方便了用户使用新站。Facebook拒绝Google Friend Connect的理由是什么呢？Facebook认为，一旦用户资料导入到第三方网站，用户就失去了对资料的控制，比如无法取消关联，甚至用户的资料被导入了但得不到通知；一旦用户要求Facebook来解决这些问题，facebook也无能为力，因为他们和这些第三方站点没有任何协议，这些站点是通过google导入的facebook的资料。所以，只能釜底抽薪，暂时不让google访问facebook的API。

Facebook的这些理由很大程度是言过其实，google对于用户资料的保护其实很好，比如上图用红框标注的这3项措施。第一个是关于用户资料呈现的设置，可以设置成只显示昵称和图片，而不显示朋友的资料；第二个是取消关联（unlink），用户可以选择不导入自己的资料；最后一个就是退出（unjoin），即取消这个站点的帐户。

Facebook做出的这种封闭决策，有失社群站点老大（二？）的风范，与其做出的资料便携（DataPortability） 的承诺也是不符的。唯一的原因就是Facebook也有自己的Friend Connect，功能极其相似。我们对它没有专门介绍，但是详细说过Myspace的data availability，二者功能相同，大家可以看这篇文章参考。

这个事情会如何发展呢？我们耐心等一等看一看。Google和Facebook会继续磋商的，Myspace为什么不迅速加入呢？

去年9月底写过一篇文章叫“BT不死”，笔调有些激愤，原因是全球第二大BT站点Demonoid被加拿大的ISP关停了。在那篇文章里我说，BT根本上是一种人与人之间的分享精神，而盗版只是强盗们自己的作恶。想消灭人们与生俱来的分享欲望可能吗？现在，Demonoid终于回来了。

Demonoid可谓是命运多舛。它的老家在荷兰，去年6月，荷兰的ISP在当地反盗版协会的压力下关停了它。然后demonoid搬到了加拿大，9月底被关停一次，然后短暂恢复，直至11月初被彻底关停。此后，demonoid的服务器又搬到了马来西亚，不过仅仅存活了3天。然后今年2月搬到了乌克兰，现在终于全面提供服务了。不必担心什么乌克兰再封锁它，BT永远不死。

对于研究人员和新闻媒体来说，所引用资料的权威性直接关系到研究成果的可靠性和报道的真实性。联合国刚刚推出的UN Data就为需要权威、专业资料的人们提供了一个资料库，可以很方便的查找联合国的各项统计数据，包括国家情况、人口、环境、能源等各个领域。下图是它的首页，一个搜索框，非常简单。

比如要搜索二氧化碳排放（co2 emissions），会得到一系列搜索结果，其中就包括各个国家二氧化碳排放量的统计。UN data一个非常好用的地方在于，可以通过过滤（filters）来比较不同国家之间某一年度的情况，比如，可以比较中国、印度、英国、美国2004年二氧化碳的排放情况。见下图，点击看大图。

上周五晚，Facebook发布了一个“JavaScript client library” （关于javascript library的意思，可以参见wikipedia的词条，此链接国内需代理访问），这个工具让各种facebook应用（facebook app）除了可以在facebook站点访问以外，还可以（几乎）从任何站点进行访问，只要这个站点支持静态html页面就可以。应用这个工具（javascript client library）的facebook应用将被归为iframe类型。

对此事，Allfacebook最早进行了报道，techcrunch也进行了跟进报道。最能说明这个举动意义的是Dan Farber的报道。

他说，这个工具的发布从某种角度来说不是什么新的创举，因为这种从外部网站访问facebook API的功能，从facebook平台建立时就有了。不过之前需要外部服务器的代码和一写写程序的技巧才能做到。这个工具的发布的意义在于，现在可以很简单的完成这件事。
因此，很多网站将可以放置facebook应用，网站的数量会激增。现在剩下的唯一一件事，是有人写一个全面的facebook应用生成器（a turn-key Facebook application creator），就像Ning已经在自己的社群网站上做的一样，我们将看到facebook widget将在网络上迅速的繁殖。

好了，老人家的话引用完了。当facebook widget在网络上遍地开花的时候，google opensocial还有出世的必要吗？

As a commenter on Nick Neill’s post Facebook Extends Platform to the Web noted, the ability to make calls from an external website to the Facebook API has existed since the launch of the Facebook platform. This capability, however, had previously required server side code (and some programming skill). Now, with the release of the JavaScript library, that is no longer true.
