图上有一个紫色的圈，那是1979——2000年北极冰面范围的平均线。我们可以看到，2007年夏天，北极的冰面融化的非常快。
除了这个南北极冰面变化图层外，美国国家冰雪资料中心还制作了很多的google图层，比如全球冻土带的变化、冰川的变化等等，非常适于研究人员、教师、环保人士使用。可以到这里下载这些图层。
高动态范围成像技术（HDRI，high dynamic range imaging）可以造就一个童话般的世界，弥补无法记录真实世界瞬间美丽的遗憾。就像上图中这只大牛一样，好像生活在哈利波特的世界里。这种技术的主旨是要表现从日光直射到阴影笼罩的大范围的曝光度，这是普通的数码成像技术所达不到的。
