Google拿出2600万美元支持“更美好的世界”
除了“不作恶”之外，Google还有更宏伟的理想——“让世界更美好”。2004年，当google的创始人Larry Page和Sergey Brin所描述的公司利益分配中，他们承诺将拿出公司净利润的1% 来支持寻找解决世界面临的问题的方法。这种支持有的是传统意义上的慈善或者公益事业，有的则还带有投资的性质，比如对新能源的研究与开发。Google的这方面的工作由Google.org来完成。
今年google拿出了2600万美元。一家叫做eSolar的研究太阳能的公司得到了最多的1000万美元；TechnoServe获得了500万美元，这些钱将用于促进加纳和坦桑尼亚小企业的发展，帮助当地人获得更多的就业机会；Pratham得到了200万美元，用于建立一个针对印度教育的研究院。
Google.org涵盖的范围非常广，从混合燃料汽车到公共健康问题，从预测到环境保护。
Google philanthropy targets global warming, poverty, and disease
